코로나바이러스를 예방하기 위한 첫 번째, 손 씻기. 손 씻기의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 모자람이 없다. #SafeHands는 WHO 사무총장이 손 씻기 11단계를 상세히 설명하는 장면을 업로드하며 시작된 챌린지로, 다음 주자를 지목해 이어가는 형식이다. 그는 다음 주자로 빌 게이츠, 아놀드 슈워제네거, 케이티 페리와 더불어 BTS를 주목했다. 현재 세이프핸즈 해시태그는 5만 건이 넘는 게시물 수를 기록하며 화제를 모으고 있다.

우리나라에서는 진주의 ‘난 괜찮아’ 원곡으로 알려진 글로리아 게이너의 ‘I Will Survive’. 그녀가 원곡을 부르며 손을 씻는 영상을 SNS에 게재한 것이 이 챌린지의 시작이다. “나는 살아 남을거야”라는 의미의 가사와 코로나바이러스로 인한 공포감이 절묘하게 맞물려 많은 이들에게 호응을 얻는 중. 글로리아는 영상 마지막에 “생존하는 데 단 20초 밖에 걸리지 않는다”는 말을 덧붙이며 손 씻기의 중요성을 강조했다.

유럽의 상황이 날로 악화되고 있는 가운데 이를 이겨내고자 하는 의지를 담은 플래시몹이 생겨났다. 바로 unitimalontani 캠페인으로, 이탈리아어로 “떨어져서 함께”라는 의미를 담고 있다. 이동 제한령으로 집 밖에 나오지 못하는 격리 상태에서도 희망을 잃지 않기 위해 각자의 발코니에 나와 노래하고 춤추는 것. 또한 수많은 집 외벽에서 “모든 것이 다 잘 될 것이다”라는 의미의 ‘Andra tutto bene’ 글귀를 볼 수 있다.
